THE ROAD THEATRE COMPANY and Taylor Gilbert, Founder/Artistic Director together with Sam Anderson, Artistic Director, are thrilled to announce the fifth show of its 2014-2015 season, the Los Angeles Premiere of THINGS BEING WHAT THEY ARE, written by Wendy MacLeod and directed by Andre Barron. THINGS BEING WHAT THEY ARE will preview on Sunday, April 19 at 7pm; Tuesday, April 21 & Wednesday, April 22 at 8pm and will open on Thursday, April 23 at 8pm and run through Sunday, June 21st at the Road on Lankershim, 5108 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood.

Bill has just moved from the city to a new condo in the suburbs, and is awaiting the arrival of his furniture and his (unfaithful) wife. He meets Jack, a brash, irreverent, and divorced neighbor who drops by for a visit and simply will not leave. In this off-beat comedy by the author of The House of Yes, two regular guys form an unlikely bond as they debate the meaning of marriage, commitment, and mortality.

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM AND CAST:

WENDY MacLEOD (Playwright) Her play The House of Yes became an award-winning Miramax film starring Parker Posey. Her other plays include Sin (The Goodman, Second Stage), Schoolgirl Figure (The Goodman Theatre), The Water Children and Juvenilia (Playwrights Horizons), and Things Being What They Are (Seattle Repertory Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre). Her play Find and Sign premiered at the Pioneer Theater in Salt Lake City and her short play This Flight Tonight was included in Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays and seen across the country and in New York City at the Minetta Lane. She was the first playwright chosen for The Writers' Room residency at The Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, where she wrote Women in Jeopardy!, which will have its premiere production at Geva Theater this season. Her prose has appeared in The New York Times, POETRY, Salon, The Rumpus, Mc-Sweeney’s Internet Tendency and on All Things Considered. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, she is the James E. Michael Playwright-in-Residence at Kenyon College.

ANDRE BARRON (Director) Most recently, The Other Place marked Andre's debut as resident director for The Road Theatre Company. An award-winning director and producer - Andre has directed many acclaimed productions - Fernando Richardson's Treacherous Brain (World Premiere) at The Open Fist Theatre, The Ice-Breaker (LA Premiere) & Dreams Of The Washer King (West Coast Premiere) at Theatre 40,Some Of My Parts for United Solo Theatre Fest at Theatre Row in NYC. A resident director at The Blank Theatre Company - he recently directed Downsizing with Malcolm MacDowell & What We Talk About... for The Young Playwrights Festival. He served as Executive Director of Theatre 40's Annual One Act Festival (Critic's Choice, LA TIMES) developing new and established writers and directing Rosen's Son, Bedside Companion & A Death In Bethany. THINGS BEING WHAT THEY ARE features an award-winning design team. The Scenic Design is by Stephen Gifford. The Lighting Design is by Derrick McDaniel. The Costume Design is by Michele Young. The Sound Design is by David B. Marling. The Stage Manager is Tony Carnaghi. THINGS BEING WHAT THEY ARE is being produced by Michelle Gillette, Lorianne Hill, Jessica Wierzba.

THINGS BEING WHAT THEY ARE will preview on Sunday, April 19 at 7pm; Tuesday, April 21 & Wednesday, April 22 at 8pm and will open on Thursday, April 23 at 8pm and run through Sunday, June 21st at the Road on Lankershim, 5108 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood. Performances are Thursdays at 8pm; Saturdays at 3pm & Sundays at 2pm. Ticket prices are $34; Students and Seniors are $17.50; Previews are $15.00.
