THE ROAD THEATRE COMPANY and Taylor Gilbert, Founder/Artistic Director together with Sam Anderson, Artistic Director, have announced the second show of its 2014-2015 season, the Los Angeles Premiere of THE OTHER PLACE, written by Sharr White and directed by Andre Barron and starring Sam Anderson, Taylor Gilbert, Dirk Etchison and Danielle Stephens. THE OTHER PLACE will preview tonight, February 14 at 8pm; Sunday, February 15 at 2pm & Wednesday, February 18 at 8pm and will open on Friday, February 20 at 8pm and run through Saturday, April 11th at the Road Theatre Company's second home, the Road on Magnolia, located in The NoHo Senior Arts Colony, 10747 Magnolia Blvd. in North Hollywood.
A resident director at The Blank Theatre Company - he recently directed Downsizing with Malcolm MacDowell & What We Talk About... for The Young Playwrights Festival. He served as Executive Director of Theatre 40's Annual One Act Festival (Critic's Choice, LA TIMES) developing new and established writers and directing Rosen's Son, Bedside Companion & A Death In Bethany.
For The Road Theatre Company: After Us The Savage God, Boy Friends and Mid-Century Modern for The Summer Playwrights Festival and The Fourth Estate, a fundraiser starring Edward Asner & Ed Begley Jr. Andre is slated to direct the LA Premiere of Things Being What They Are by Wendy Macleod, opening in April at The Road Theatre Company.
SAM ANDERSON (Ian) is the artistic director of The Road Theatre Company, a position he shares with founder Taylor Gilbert. Road Theatre Acting credits include: Madagascar, The Bird and Mr. Banks (Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award - Best Actor), Napoli Millionaria (Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award - Best Actor). Rogue Machine:Blackbird (Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award - Best Actor, LA Weekly Award - Best Duo Performance). Road directing credits include Clete Keith's The Different Shades of Hugh, Theresa Rebeck's The Water's Edge, Stacy Sims'As White As O, and Shove by Mark Eisman (LA Weekly Directing Nomination.) Film & Television audiences know him from 35 years of performances, including his recent recurring turn as the evil Lee Paxton on Justified, Bernard onLost, Dr. Kaysen on E.R. (SAG Award, Best Ensenble), Holland Manners on Angel and the films Water for Elephants, Forrest Gump, La Bamba, Frankie Go Boom, Breaking the Girls and the recently release horror thriller from Fox,Devil's Due. Sam holds an MA in American Lit/ Creative Writing, as well as his theatre degrees. He teaches a professional acting class combining scene study, improv, monologues and audition technique. He is also a graduate of The Grantsmanship Institute and studied Horticulture at Descanso Gardens. He is most proud of his 21-year old twin theatre majors, Elizabeth and Ben.
TAYLOR GILBERT (Juliana) most recently played Anna in The Road's acclaimed production Sovereign Body (Eddon award nomination for Best Lead Performance 2014). Other theatre acting credits for The Road Theatre include: Balm in Gilead, Why Things Burn, Vig, Pirates, Akela, Merlin, An American Romance, White People (LA Weekly nominee Best Actress), A Mislaid Heaven, The Seventh Monarch, The Pagans, Oroboros, Backwards in High Heels, And Neither Have I Wings to Fly, Madagascar (Ticket Holder Award- Best Actress in a Play). Film acting credits include: Spiderman (1 & 2), Hancock, The Island, Twister, Tucker, The Dead Pool, The McMartin Trials.
The Cast of THE OTHER PLACE will also feature: Dirk Etchison and Danielle Stephens.
THE OTHER PLACE features an award-winning design team. The Scenic and Projection Design are by Kaitlyn Pietras.The Lighting Design is by Pablo Santiago. The Costume Design is by Michele Young. The Sound Design is by David B. Marling. THE OTHER PLACE is being produced by Chet Grissom, Kevin Shipp, and Michael Thomas-Visgar.
