Ricky Jay Kicks-off Mamet-Helmed A ROGUE'S GALLERY at Geffen Playhouse Tonight, 12/29

Ricky Jay, the actor known for his acclaimed solo shows in which he explores card tricks, illusion, deception and popular entertainment, launches his new show, Ricky Jay: A Rogue's Gallery - An Evening of Conversation and Performance, tonight, December 29 at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. The production runs thruough Jan. 10, 2010. 

David Mamet, a longtime collaborator of the performer's, directs the production. The production is being billed as New York City-bound, according to the Geffen. Mamet additionally directed Jay's OBIE Award-winning Ricky Jay & His 52 Assistants and Drama Desk Award-nominated Ricky Jay: On the Stem.

In A Rogue's Gallery, The usually reticent Jay offers a more intimate look into his life and career by opening his personal cabinet of curiosities. Using advanced technology, he displays posters, playbills and artifacts from his world famous treasure trove on deception and unusual entertainments. All the while, he astounds and entertains with mind-boggling feats never twittered about or viewed on YouTube.  Audiences allegedly shape the action of the play.

As an actor, Jay has been seen in David Mamet's films "House of Games," "State and Main," "Heist" and "Red Belt." His consulting company, Deceptive Practices, has supplied "arcane knowledge on a need to know basis" for more than a score of films including "Forrest Gump," "The Illusionist" and "Oceans 13." He is the author of "Learned Pigs" "Fireproof Women," "Cards as Weapons," "Jay's Journal of Anomalies," "Dice: Deception, Fate and Rotten Luck" and "Extraordinary Exhibitions." His Grammy-nominated boxed set "Ricky Jay Plays Poker," "an album of classic and esoteric gambling tunes and a DVD of his of sleight of hand performance," is available from Sony BMG.
