Debbie Reynolds and Ruta Lee have championed the Thalians charity as President and Board Chairperson and continue to raise money for mental health from pediatrics to geriatrics.
Debbie Reynolds grew up in the East Valley and rode her bicycle to the El Portal Movie Palace at 15 to see the double-features, cartoons and serials of the day. One year later, she would star in the movies at MGM. And this is the same Debbie Reynolds who was named "Miss Burbank" in 1948, was a cheerleader for John Burroughs High School, and who went on to "Singin' in the Rain" fame, starring Donald O' Connor and Gene Kelly, to "Tammy," to the Oscar®- nominated "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," and another 25 films. She has more awards and accolades than any star in show business - two Walk of Fame Stars (not one!) on Hollywood Blvd.
