Following a Sold Out debut, The Colony Theatre Company is excited to encore its first foray into magic and a new breakout hit, VAUDEVILLUSION! An original experience that fuses magic and theatre, it stars six award-winning magicians who transport audiences back in time to the days of vaudeville, while performing acts seen on America's Got Talent, Masters of Illusion, Wizard Wars, Fake Off, Don't Blink, and at the World Famous Magic Castle.
At the turn of the 20th century magic reached the forefront of theatrical entertainment. Magicians got their start on the vaudeville circuit, hoping to use feats of impossibility to capture a mercurial crowd, who would elevate them to overnight stardom. For those conjurers that did, they rose to a fame that exceeded all others... until the flickers arrived and threatened to end the era that magic calls its 'Golden Age.'
The most successful prestidigitators of that time transcended the typical magic show by presenting evenings of performance theatre, filled with characters and a story that contextualized their magic. Never relegating themselves to just presenters of the newest illusion, their goal was to make their magic shows as good as the tricks they contained.
In that spirit, a new crop of young magicians (all members of the Academy of Magical Arts who have been making their marks in national television appearances), have joined together under the direction of film and theatre creator Andrew Moorman for a show co-created by acclaimed magician and actor Mattias Ramos, to return to that earlier time when 'magic was theatre.' Their goal is to provide a hilarious and moving theatrical experience, while still leaving the audiences asking that proverbial question, "How'd they do that?"
Vaudevillusion is a continuation of the Colony Theatre's new Cabaret Series, which brings magic, dance, burlesque and acclaimed vocalists to their beautiful theatrical setting ...and there will be more "conjuring" on the agenda during the Colony's 2015-2016 season.
