Reefer Madness has Invaded the Conejo Valley!
With a weed-legalization referendum on California's November ballot (along with a draconian McCarthy-style Presidential candidate), there couldn't be a more perfect time to open the discussion of the consequences of marijuana ...
Reefer Madness, being staged by Conejo Players Theatre now through July 31, is inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name. This raucous musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex, and violence.
According to John Kassir (original Ralph in Reefer's L.A./Off-Broadway productions and the 2005 Showtime film), Conejo Players' production has a "Talented cast! Funny performances! Well Directed! Great Music! Awesome show! GO GO GO to Conejo!!"
Reefer Madness has a book by Kevin Murphy & Dan Studney, music by Dan Studney, lyrics by Kevin Murphy, and was originally directed by Andy Fickman and produced by Stephanie Steele for DEAD OLD MAN PRODUCTIONS. Original orchestrations by David Manning & Nathan Wang. Conejo Players' production is directed by James Cluster, produced by Carolyn Luu, music directed by Benjamin Glasner and Erin Fagundes, and choreographed by Julie Alice Auxier. The show is presented through special arrangement with R & H Theatricals.
Performances are ongoing through July 31 -- Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. Conejo Players Theatre is located at 351 S. Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks.
The show is rated R. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students / seniors / military.
