Legendary pianist Alfred Brendel visits downtown Los Angeles to deliver a lively lecture-demonstration discussing the ideas and inspiration that have made him one of the indisputable authorities on musical life today. Co-presented with the Brain and Creativity Institute, University of Southern California, Alfred Brendel: On Character In Music will take place at the REDCAT on October 28, 2010 at 8:30 p.m.
After nearly 50 years of riveting live performances that packed the world's most prestigious concert halls, Brendel retired from the concert platform in 2008. Considered one of the greatest classical musicians of our time, he continues to command the stage as a scintillating speaker. Illustrating his presentation by playing musical examples from the Beethoven sonatas, Brendel guides his audience in an exploration of various aspects of sound, articulation, notation, rhythm and character, as well as performance habits and their relevance to the works and to the present-day ear.
Alfred Brendel: On Character In Music will be held at REDCAT on Thursday October 28, 2010. Curtain for performance is 8:30 pm. All tickets are $30 general admission ( $25 for students with current I.D.) and are available at www.redcat.org or by calling 213 237-2800. REDCAT is located at the corner of W. 2nd and Hope Streets, inside the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex (631 West 2nd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012).
