The LA premiere of this rarely performed musical comedy sendup of 1950s B-movies takes a satirical look American ideals and foibles in the Eisenhower era.
Cold War and space race paranoia threaten the good folks at the fictional Milwaukee Space Center in 1955 when a flying saucer lands. The craft is piloted by Zombina, a buxom alien aviatrix bent on procuring he-specimens to repopulate her planet. This show brings the 1950s nostalgically and hilariously to life with a tuneful, toe-tapping score.
This show got rave reviews when it opened off-Broadway in 1995, but closed quickly and was nearly forgotten. Now making its long-delayed debut on the LA stage as part of the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival.
THE CALL OF CTHULHU
September-November 2014 (exact dates TBA)
adapted and performed by
Frank Blocker (NY Drama Desk nominee, Southern Gothic Novel)
directed by Dan Spurgeon
An all-new world premiere solo performance adaptation of the Lovecraft classic.
HOLIDAY SHOW (TBA)
December 2014
An all-new world premiere holiday show - with a Visceral twist! Details to be announced in summer 2014.
All performances will be at The Visceral Company's home, the Lex Theatre, 6760 Lexington Ave., Hollywood, CA. Performances will generally be on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm and Sunday matinees at 3 pm; exact performance schedules will be announced closer to each show's opening.
The Visceral Company, called "LA's premiere horror theatre troupe" by Fangoria magazine, specializes in works that explore the dark, strange, and macabre - killer shows from darker places. We hope to encourage further onstage exploration of the horror, thriller, and science fiction genres, which have been underrepresented in theatre, and to build an appreciation of theatre in the younger audiences that are traditionally drawn to them.
