A private reading of the new play SWORDPLAY by Ben Bettenbender will be presented October 2 at Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City, CA.
Directed by Brian Nitzkin, the cast will include Ben Brannon (Othello, Last Night of Ballyhoo), David Huynh (This is Our Youth, Balm in Gilead) , Victor Lee (Love Letters, A Thorn in Her Side), Alexis Rhee, Don Smith (Fame, Crank), Tim Venable (Night of the Iguana, Hamlet) and Jeorge Watson (Glory of Living, Stop Kiss).
SWORDPLAY is described is such: A lives of a father and his son are turned upside down by a family tragedy and both men are forced to go to extreme measures to gain understanding, acceptance and the power to move on.
Ben Bettenbender is the author of Bliss (in New York at Rattlestick Productions and Currican); Vick's Boy (Circa Theatre, American Theater Company in Chicago, Rattlestick Productions); Scaring the Fish (in new York at the INTAR and in San Francisco at the magic Theatre); Those Left Behind (The Directors Company); Widow's Walk (The Levin Theater Company, New Brunswick, New Jersey, and at the Summer NITE Festival in Chicago); Emil (New Jersey Repertory Theatre, The Levin Theater Company); and A Second Wind (Rutgers University, the Jan Hus Theater in New York, and The George Street Playhouse). He is a member of the Cape Cod Theatre Project, where four of his plays (Scaring the Fish, Emil, Vick's Boy and The Siren Song of Stephen Jay Gould) have been performed during the last four summers.
