After a seven-year hiatus, Playwrights 6 is pleased to announce its return to the stage with the world premiere production of G. Bruce Smith's "Where the Dead Men Lost Their Bones" Nov. 9-17 in Hollywood.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays (Nov. 9, 10, 16 and 17) and 2 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 11) at McCadden Place Theatre, 1157 N. McCadden Place, Hollywood 90038.

"A lot has changed in the L.A. theatrical landscape since we were actively producing new work," said Larry Dean Harris, one of Playwrights 6's founding members. "But we are playwrights, and playwrights keep writing. With Bruce's play, we're getting back into the arena with a bold new work."

The play centers on the hidden pain surrounding the disappearance of a young Englishman in Africa amidst a strange obsession with a Sioux Indian chief who lies buried in a neglected grave in a London cemetery.

The director is Brian Reynolds and cast members are Mari Marks, David Mack, Elyse Ashton and Ainsley Emrys.

Smith is the award winning author of 25-plus plays of various lengths and two screenplays and has production credits in California, Minnesota, India and Paris, France. His full-length play, Heart Mountain, which was commissioned by Santa Monica College (Calif.), was selected for the prestigious 2013 Regional Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival at Los Angeles Theatre Center.

He has won a dozen playwriting awards from theaters and universities throughout the nation, including such organizations as the Ashland (Ore.) New Plays Festival and the Long Beach (Calif.) Playhouse. His 2011 play After Us the Savage God received an honorable mention in the 2011 Ohio State University Newark New Play Contest and was a finalist in the 2011 HRC Showcase Theatre's Playwriting Contest in New York.

His play The Last Pitch won the 2000 National Playwriting Award from the American Renegade Theatre in North Hollywood and had an 11-week run in 2001, garnering "Pick of the Week" in L.A. Weekly. The Last Pitch was also produced in fall 2006 in Austin, Minn.

He is a founding member of Los Angeles-based Playwrights 6. A former journalist, Bruce has written for the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Daily News, and other publications.

Reynolds has been acting, writing and directing for more than 20 years. In 2017, he wrote and directed the play "Mono/Poly," which debuted in Hollywood for a sold-out three performance run. He is currently directing his feature film debut, "Alienated."

Playwrights 6, founded in 1999, is one of an elite group of playwright-managed theater companies in Los Angeles. Playwrights 6 productions have earned nominations or awards from such organizations as L.A. Weekly Theatre Awards, Backstage West Garland Awards, and GLAAD L.A. Outstanding Theatre Awards. Playwrights 6 productions have also made several "Critics Top 10" lists and garnered several "Critic's Picks."
