Last night (Monday, 9.21), The Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles presented Inside Parade: The True Story that Inspired the Tony-Winning Musical with special guests Alfred Uhry, Writer - Book; Jason Robert Brown, Writer, Music & Lyrics; and Lara Pulver, "Lucille Frank". On the eve of its premiere at Los Angeles'Mark Taper Forum, the creative team behind the Donmar Warehouse production of Parade takes a look inside the media frenzy surrounding the real life case that inspired the Tony-winning musical while offering a behind the scenes look at the LA production.
Based on the true story of Leo Frank, convicted for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1913, Parade recounts the press frenzy and public outrage about Frank's trial, and his wife's crusade for justice. Amid religious intolerance, political injustice and racial tension, this stirring Tony Award®-winning musical explores the endurance of love and hope against all the odds. Cast includes T.R. Knight (Grey's Anatomy) playing Leo Frank, with Lara Pulver reprising the role of Lucille Frank.
