Oscar-nominee Taraji Henson recently met the cast of The Ballad of Emmett Till, which is now playing at The Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles. Those who have been unable to reserve seats to The Fountain Theatre's sold out production of The Ballad of Emmett Till will get another chance. The Fountain Theatre has announced a third extension through May 30.
The Ballad of Emmett Till, which has received rave reviews in its West Coast premiere at the Fountain, is Chicago-based playwright Ifa Bayeza's joyful celebration of 14-year old Emmett Till's life prior to his murder in 1955 - the incident which many remember as the spark of the American civil rights movement. Bayeza has created a lyrical integration of past, present, fact and legend that is part history, part mystery and part ghost story, turning Emmett's story into a soaring work of music, poetic language and riveting theatricality.
The Ballad of Emmett Till is directed by Shirley Jo Finney and features Bernard K. Addison, Rico E. Anderson, Lorenz Arnell, Adenrele Ojo, and Karen Malina White.
Performances continue on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm through May 30. Tickets are $25.00 on Thursdays and Fridays and $28.00 on Saturdays and Sundays. On Thursdays and Fridays only, students with ID are $18.00 and seniors over 62 are $23.00. The Fountain Theatre is located at 5060 Fountain Avenue (at Normandie) in Los Angeles.
