On Monday, December 6, cast members from the first national tour of NEXT TO NORMAL—now performing a limited engagement at the Center Theatre Group's Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles—performed a brief set at "Musical Mondays," the Broadway-centric live performance showcase hosted by Scott Nevins and Ryan O'Connor at the Eleven Nightclub in West Hollywood.
On hand were touring cast members Curt Hansen (Hairspray, Parade), who plays Gabe; Preston Sadleir (Me Myself & I, Carrie: The Musical) who plays Henry; and Caitlin Kinnunen (Spring Awakening) who understudies the role of Natalie (Emma Hunton was previously scheduled to appear). Hansen opened the evening with "It Takes Two," a song he's quite familiar with considering his previous experience playing the role of Link Larkin in Hairspray. Later, Sadleir and Kinnunen sang a duet from Side Show, no doubt in homage to their NEXT TO NORMAL co-star Alice Ripley, who is reprising her role in the Los Angeles stop of the tour.
Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards including Best Musical Score, NEXT TO NORMAL, starring Tony winner Alice Ripley, continues at the Ahmanson Theatre through January 2, 2011. For tickets or additional information, visit www.centertheatregroup.org.Photos by Michael Lawrence Quintos.
