In a most unconventional interview, the unapologetically flamboyant, fearlessly groundbreaking, and iconic New York sculptor Louise Nevelson (Martha Hackett) reveals her artistic triumphs and her tumultuous personal struggles. Having emerged in the art world during the Abstract Expressionist movement, Nevelson utilized found materials from urban debris to create innovative sculptural environments. The stories her work told evoked her background as a Jewish immigrant from Russia, her artistic training in New York and Germany, and as a successful woman in a male-dominated medium. Determined to be seen and heard, ever struggling under the shadow of men during her time, she muses on her sordid past in Edward Albee's poignant work about his friend, one of the most singular sculptors of the 20th century.
Edward Albee's Occupant has never before been produced on the West Coast.
