Photo Flash: First Look at Artists Rise Up Los Angeles's E PLURIBUS UNUM: OUT OF MANY, ONE

On the last day of the National Month of Outrage: Theatre Artists Unite, ARTISTS RISE UP LOS ANGELES presented a very special benefit evening, E PLURIBUS UNUM: OUT OF MANY, ONE, a collection of short plays and scenes, music, dance, spoken word, art installations and multi-media presentations in reaction to the 2016 presidential election. The National Month of Outrage was initially organized by Jonathan Alexandratos, who pulled together a New York City-based team of artists called Theatre Artists Unite. However, it quickly became clear that artists and producers coast-to-coast were already galvanizing and planning similar protests for their own stages.

ARTISTS RISE UP LOS ANGELES, the brainchild of director and executive producer Sue Hamilton, (in collaboration with ARTISTS RISE UP NEW YORK and it's leader, Jessica Litwak), was born as a result of the outcome of the 2016 U.S. presidential election: "ARULA speaks to the need to create positive, social and revolutionary change by being who we are and doing what we DO," shares Sue Hamilton.

Though only a month old, ARULA already boasts over one hundred members and continues to grow each day. It is made up of diverse members of the creative community, representing actors, directors, writers, filmmakers, singers and dancers, spoken word artists, photographers and others, all of whom have come together to RISE UP. We will not be silent. We will use our unique artistic voices to bring social justice and positive change to the world.

Written and performed by a diverse group of artists, E PLURIBUS UNUM: OUT OF MANY, ONE is a collection of short plays and scenes, music, dance, spoken word, multi-media presentations, as well as art and photography installations, in response to the recent U.S. presidential election.

Hamilton Broadway cast member and choreographer Karla Garcia, and fellow cast member David Guzman recreate Hamilton's Best Presentation-winning number, "America," from this year's Gypsy of the Year competition in New York City.

LA's preeminent ensemble-devising company, The Ghost Road Company explores the fate of women in society as they share an excerpt from their next piece in development, inspired by the story of Oedipus' mother/wife Jocasta.

Arab-American actor/writer Peter Sabri performs his powerful solo performance piece.

Robert Yacko (LA Premiere of Sunday In The Park With George, Company w/Carol Burnett) and Heidi Godt (Mamma Mia Broadway) sing Jason Robert Brown's original post-election composition, "Hope."

ABC Discovers alumnus Santina Muha performs a piece about discrimination that people with disabilities face on a daily basis.

Rollence Patugan's photography installation, "We The People" is on display.

The evening will also include works from Diana Burbano, Jenn Liu, Hilari Scarl, Amy Keys, Enrico Villanueva, Khalilah Joi, Terry Ray, Mahesh Pailoor, Wendy Graf, and more...

All proceeds from the one night performance will be shared by the following organizations: American Civil Liberties Union; Council on American-Islamic Relations; Human Rights Campaign; NARAL Pro-Choice America; and Natural Resources Defense Council.

Additionally, representatives from each organization will be present in the lobby to facilitate, educate and empower people to contribute their time, talents or funds should they be interested.

The post-performance lobby reception will also include a live art installation, photography exhibits, food and drinks.
