Rehearsals have begun for David Mamet's fiendishly funny comedy "November," which will be presented at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum, September 26 through November 4, 2012.  The opening is set for October 7. In addition to previously announced cast members Ed Begley, Jr., Felicity Huffman and Rod McLachlan, "November" will feature Gregory Cruz and Todd Weeks

Just in time for the 2012 election, "November," which will be directed by Scott Zigler, takes place a few days before a presidential election and incumbent Charles Smith (played by Begley) is in for a rough month -- his campaign funds are running out, his poll numbers are "lower than Gandhi's cholesterol" and the sofa needs to be reupholstered. But although his speechwriter (Huffman) seems to have defected, his chief of staff (McLachlan) has all but given up and his wife is planning for her post-White House life, Charles isn't ready to throw in the towel quite yet.

With Mamet's characteristic no-holds-barred style, "November" is a scathingly hilarious take on the state of America today and the lengths to which people will go to win.

"November" features set design by Takeshi Kata, costume design by Laura Bauer and lighting design by Josh Epstein. The production stage manager is Barclay Stiff.

David Mamet was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 for "Glengarry Glen Ross," for which he later wrote the screenplay. His other plays include "Speed-the-Plow," "American Buffalo," and "Boston Marriage," among others. CTG has presented "Romance" (2005-2006 season) and "Oleanna" (2009 season) at the Taper, and "Keep Your Pantheon"/"The Duck Variations"/"A Sermon" (2007-2008 season) at CTG's Kirk Douglas Theatre. Mamet's screenplays include "The Postman Always Rings Twice," "The Verdict," "The Untouchables" and "Wag the Dog." He has directed 10 films. Mamet created and was the executive producer of the critically acclaimed CBS-TV series "The Unit." He is a founding member of the Atlantic Theater Company, and the author of the bestselling "Bambi vs. Godzilla: On the Nature, Purpose, and Practice of the Movie Business"; "The Wicked Son"; "Three Uses of the Knife: On the Nature and Purpose of Drama"; "True and False: Heresy and Common Sense for the Actor"; and his current "The Secret Knowledge: On the Dismantling of American Culture."

Scott Zigler directed Mamet's "The Old Neighborhood" on Broadway and has directed numerous shows off-Broadway and regionally, including "The Woods," "Sure Thing," "As You Like It" (with Felicity Huffman), "Strawberry Fields" (Atlantic Theater Company) and the world premieres of "Suburban News" and a new adaptation of "The Cherry Orchard."  Other Mamet plays he has directed include "Romance," "The Cryptogram," "Glengarry Glen Ross" and the national tour of "Oleanna." He is a founding member, past artistic director and senior acting faculty of the Atlantic Theater Company and is Director of the American Repertory Theater/Moscow Art Theatre School Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University.
