"The Tallest Tree in the Forest", A Play with Music written and performed by Daniel Beaty, is being directed by Moisés Kaufman in its World Premiere production at Center Theatre Group's Mark Taper Forum at the Music Center in Los Angeles. The show opened on Saturday, April 19, and below, BroadwayWorld has photos from the opening night festivities!
In attendance at the performance were Sam Anderson, Obba Babatundé, Starletta DuPois, Edwina Findlay, Darrin Henson, Dominic Hofman, Dawnn Lewis, Trina Parks, Roger Guenveur Smith, Harold Wheeler, Hattie Winston Wheeler, Deborah Wilson and more.
Obie Award-winning writer and performer Daniel Beaty chronicles Paul Robeson's remarkable life as an artist and political activist in an unforgettable theatrical biography, "The Tallest Tree in the Forest." Beaty embodies not only Robeson but also dozens of the international personalities who crossed Robeson's path. Beaty fills the theatre with the words, songs and dreams of a man who achieved so much as an All-American linebacker, valedictorian, Columbia Law School graduate and finally an internationally renowned star of stage and screen, and then he risked it all as a civil rights activist.
The Mark Taper Forum at the Music Center is located at 135 N. Grand Ave. Downtown Los Angeles, 90012. "The Tallest Tree in the Forest" continues through March 25, 2014. Tickets are available in person at the CTG box office, by phone (213) 628-2772 or online at www.CenterTheatreGroup.org.
