Coronado Playhouse continues its 2018 Season, A Family Affair, with Next to Normal, opening Friday, May 25th running until Sunday, June 17th, 2018 at The Playhouse. Heartbreaking, humorous and unflinchingly authentic in its examination of a suburban family and how they handle mother's 16-year battle with bi-polar disorder, Next to Normal is a tremendously moving and intimate musical about deeply complicated and flawed human beings and takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family's story with love, sympathy and heart.
The powerful rock-music score by Tom Kitt (If/Then, American Idiot, Freaky Friday), garnered 3 Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Next to Normal is, in the words of The New York Times, "much more than a feel-good musical; it is a feel-everything musical."
Making his Coronado Playhouse directorial debut, Chad Oakley has assembled a talented and committed cast of six actor/singers and a dedicated and experienced design & creative team. Mr. Oakley is a long-time collaborator and friend of Coronado Playhouse having designed both sets and lighting on many previous productions. This time as Director, he is joined by Musical Director Martín Martiarena to bring what the Chicago Tribune calls, "An honest, truthful story about a family with problems but a whole lot of love for each other & beautiful, artful, deeply moving."
Tickets range from $20-$27 and are available through Coronado Playhouse's Box Office at (619) 435-4856 or online at www.CoronadoPlayhouse.com.
