Actors Co-op (Ovation Award-Winner 2014 Best Intimate Theatre Musical for 110 in the Shade) presents the second show in its celebratory 25th Silver Anniversary season with the frightfully delightful THE TURN OF THE SCREW by Jeffrey Hatcher from the classic story by Henry James and directed by Robertson Dean (Antigone - A Noise Within). THE TURN OF THE SCREW previewed on Wednesday, October 12 and Thursday, October 13 at 8pm and opened on Friday, October 14 at 8pm; it runs through Sunday, November 20 at the Actors Co-op Crossley Theatre, 1760 N. Gower St. (on the campus of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood) in Hollywood.

A young governess is responsible for raising two young children in a remote English manor house. But she is not the first one - and what has happened to her predecessor? Hatcher's thrilling adaptation of the classic Henry James story uses just two actors to bring all the characters to life. The perfect ghost story to haunt your Halloween season!

Jeffrey Hatcher (Adapter/Playwright) is an accomplished playwright and screenwriter. He spent his youth in Steubenville, Ohio and was much influenced by Glenda Dunlope, the head of his high school drama program. He attended Denison University in Ohio and later migrated to New York City, ultimately settling in Minneapolis. Some of his plays and collaborations include: Three Viewings, Scotland Road, Picasso, Neddy, Korczak's Children, Mercy Of A Storm, Work Song, Three Views Of Frank Lloyd Wright and Lucky Duck His many award-winning, original plays have been performed on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regionally across the US and abroad and seen at such theatres as Yale Repertory Theatre, The Old Globe, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and dozens more in the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Hatcher's adaptation of Mr. Stevenson's novella, Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde was nominated by the Mystery Writers of America for an Edgar Award for Best Play.

Henry James (Novelist) was born on April 15, 1843, in New York City. His father was one of the most wealthy intellectuals of the time, providing James the opportunity to grow up around the likes of Ralph Waldo Emerson, David Thoreau, Nathanial Hawthorne and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The family spent many years traveling throughout Europe as the children were tutored in language and literature. After deciding to become a writer in 1864, James permanently moved to London in 1876 where he produced reviews, personal musings, short stories and novels. Throughout the course of his career, James focused on many different themes including personal freedom, feminism, and morality and provided commentary on politics, class and status. Henry James became one of his generation's most well-known writers and remains so to this day for such works as The Portrait of a Lady and The Turn of the Screw. Having lived in England for 40 years, James became a British subject in 1915, the year before his death. In 1916, he was awarded The Order of Merit by King George V. He died on February 28, 1916, in London, England.

Robertson Dean (Director) recently directed Tennessee Williams' Kirche Kuche Kinder (An Outrage for the Stage) at the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival.

This production was the first allowed by the Williams estate in the 40 years since the play's premiere. In a similar vein, last season Mr. Dean translated, adapted and directed Jean Anouilh's Antigone at A Noise Within here in L.A. It had been 70 years since the Anouilh estate had approved for performance a new version of this great play. Mr. Dean has been an actor/director on stage, TV and film since graduating from the Yale School of Drama in 1979. He's also recorded over 500 audiobooks.

The Cast of THE TURN OF THE SCREW features Natalie Hope MacMillan and Isaac Wade.
