The Santa Clarita Valley, just north of Los Angeles, geared up to welcome a new professional theatre company, The Theatre Project/SCV, on May 29 with their second "Salon Series," where the two Producing Artistic Directors announced upcoming production dates.
Directors Andrea Slominski and Mark Salyer revealed the dates for three productions during 2007-2008, scheduled to take place at the College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center, which will continue bringing in money and building awareness.
From September 6-9, TTP/SCV promises to mount a concert staging of a major Broadway musical hit on the Main Stage, and while rights negotiations have not yet been completed, Salyer and Slominski shared that such titles as Chicago and Les Miserables were under serious consideration. The Company intends to utilize the intimate Black Box Theatre space from January 10-27, 2008 to produce a musical, with the popular Leiber & Stoller rock 'n' roll revue Smokey Joe's Café mentioned as a possibility. Finally, TTP/SCV has secured two weeks in the Spring, from June 5-15, 2008, to mount a fully-staged musical on the Main Stage, and Slominski and Salyer revealed their hopes to procure the rights for Pippin, featuring the music and lyrics of Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell), who participated last year in TTP/SCV's one-night-only musical evening tribute to his amazing body of work, including performances by such luminaries as Ben Vereen (original star of Broadway's Pippin) and Corbin Bleu (Disney's "High School Musical").
