2019 marks the 25th anniversary of Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece, Pulp Fiction. To celebrate, Hollywood's raucous concert troupe, 'For The Record,' is taking their show on the road. Just in time for their eight-year anniversary, For The Record returned to The Sorting Room at Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts to reinvent the hit that started it all. For The Record: Tarantino.
For The Record: Tarantino is a rock 'n' soul concert that brings to life Tarantino's cinematic universe. It's a spiderweb of hitmen, gangsters and assassins slaying vinyl classics like - "Son of a Preacher Man," "Stuck in the Middle With You," "Bang Bang," and many more - to create a genre-defying musical tribute to the genre-defining director. This incarnation is led by a quintet of superheroines inspired by the powerful women of Tarantino's dysfunctional family tree. Straight out of Tarantino's graphic novel, these women battle "The Tyranny of Evil Men" as 'THE FOX FORCE FIVE.'
Evan Rachel Wood leads 'THE FOX FORCE FIVE' as 'THE BLONDE FOX' (inspired by 'Mia Wallace' from Pulp Fiction and 'Beatrix Kiddo' from Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & 2). She's joined by Reeve Carney (character inspired by 'Vincent Vega' from Pulp Fiction and 'Dr. King Schultz' from Django Unchained) and Ty Taylor(character inspired by 'Jules Winnfield' from Pulp Fiction and 'Ordell Robbie' from Jackie Brown). The other 'FOXES' will be brought to life by the powerhouse vocals of Dionne Gipson (character inspired by Jackie Brown & 'Vernita Green' from Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & 2), Olivia Kuper Harris (character inspired by 'Fabienne' from Pulp Fiction and 'Shosanna Dreyfus' from Inglourious Basterds), Carrie Manolakos (character inspired by 'Butterfly' from Death Proof and 'Santanico Pandemonium' from From Dusk Till Dawn)and TV Carpio (character inspired by 'Oren Ishii' from Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & 2). Battling alongside the 'FOXES' are dynamosJames Byous (character inspired by 'Butch Coolidge' from Pulp Fiction and 'Lt. Aldo Raine' from Inglourious Basterds), Rogelio Douglas, Jr. (character inspired by 'Marsellus Wallace' from Pulp Fiction, 'Joe Cabot' from Reservoir Dogs, and 'Django' from Django Unchained) and Patrick Mulvey (character inspired by 'Col. Hans Landa' from Inglourious Basterds, 'Bill' from Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & 2, & 'Stuntman Mike' from Death Proof).
For The Record: Tarantino is directed by Anderson Davis, with musical supervision and arrangements by Jesse Vargas, vocal design by Tony Nominee AnnMarie Milazzo, lighting design by Michael Berger, sound design by Ben Soldate, costume design by Steve Mazurek, and co-produced by Shane Scheel and Siobhan O'Neill. Presented by The Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts located at 9390 N Santa Monica Blvd. For more information, please call 310-746-4000 or visit: http://www.thewallis.org.
Created by Shane Scheel and Anderson Davis, FOR THE RECORD is an unconventional production that brings the soul of treasured directors' films front and center: the soundtrack. Staged in intimate venues that immerse the audience in the excitement, carefully-selected songs from movie soundtracks are brought to life. A mix of part rock-concert part theater, For The Record unites characters across a film directors' cannon into one world. In 2010, the immersive experience began in a 60-seat bar in Hollywood and has featured the works of acclaimed directors Quentin Tarantino, John Hughes, Baz Luhrmann, The Coen Brothers, Paul Thomas Anderson, Martin Scorsese, Robert Zemeckis, and Garry and Penny Marshall. For The Record has performed around the country with shows in Los Angeles, Las Vegas (a three-year run with Cirque du Soleil and The Venetian), New York, Chicago, Indianapolis, The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, SXSW in Austin, TX, The Montreal International Jazz Festival and currently making waves on Norwegian Cruise Line's mega-ship, The Escape. For The Record is carving a new place in the market that transcends jukebox musicals and creates a transportive experience making the audience feel like they are twisting in Jack Rabbit Slims, in detention at Shermer High School, or toasting in Gatsby's Mansion. www.fortherecordlive.com
