Get a first look at 3D Theatricals' 42ND STREET's opening night. The bygone era of theatre will feel hauntingly real and magical. This new production will combine the Ziegfeld Follies golden age of MGM musicals, Busby Berkeley dance numbers and the spice of Chicago to entrance and amaze audiences of all ages.
This production of 42ND STREET stars the one and only Davis Gaines, the longest-running Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, in the title role of Julian Marsh. We are thrilled to welcome Davis back after his gripping performance in our Ovation award-winning production of PARADE. "The Lullaby of Broadway" will never sound sweeter.
David F.M. Vaughn returns to 3D as the director of 42ND STREET, having most recently directed MAMMA MIA. He will be tackling themes and situations from the shadier side of entertainment represented in the musical, and be showcasing them for a 2018 audience that will no doubt see that the past and the present are sometimes more similar than we would care to admit. His slick, sleek, and polished version of this production is guaranteed to keep you humming familiar songs as you leave the theatre, while giving audiences plenty to think about in terms of a society that is grasping and grappling with the #metoo era and movement.
What is 42nd street without its extravagant and lavish dance numbers? The choreography will be much of the same iconic choreography the audience knows and loves, but jazzed up and energized by our amazing choreographer, Kami Seymour Martin. An original founding staff member of 3DT and former Associate Artistic Director, Kami last choreographed our production of FUNNY GIRL. Her love of 42ND STREET is allowing her to keep the much-needed iconic hoofing, while giving her the freedom to breathe all-new magic into the dance numbers! We are thrilled to have her back for our 10th Anniversary season!
42ND STREET will be the musical our audiences will be talking about for years to come. We are proud to present this brand tappin' new production as our very first show of our spectacular 2018-2019 season. Entertainment doesn't get bigger than this.
