BRITE IDEAS & GAY MEN'S CHORUS OF LOS ANGELES Proudly Presents "And The Award Goes To!"
at the Alex Theatre with Valarie Pettiford, Wilson Cruz & Hostess, Miss Coco Peru

"And The Award Goes To..." celebrates award-winning music in the wild and wonderfully original way that only the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles can! This one-of-a-kind event is both a send-up of the awards-show and a salute to some of the best songs of the last 30 years. Hosted by the incomparable Miss Coco Peru (drag icon, and star of films including Trick and Girls Will Be Girls) and featuring exciting guest stars, an abundance of video elements, lavish costumes, and lots of dancing and spectacle; "And The Award Goes To..." lampoons the 'red carpet' culture, and all that goes along with it. The evening begins with a pre-show red-carpet entrance, complete with "paparazzi," "celebrities" and, of course, "entertainment reporters" commenting on it all. From there, GMCLA then launches into a salute to Academy Award winning songs like "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "It's Hard out Here for a Pimp;" Grammy winning songs like "Change the World", "Rehab" and "Unforgettable;" and Tony Award winning shows like "Avenue Q", "Kiss of the Spider Woman" and "Hairspray." In addition to Coco, and the nearly 200 men who make up the GMCLA, the event will also feature Tony Nominee and Broadway diva Valarie Pettiford (Fosse, The Wiz, Chicago) and TV, stage and screen star Wilson Cruz (Rent, My So Called Life, Party of Five.) And, in a special finale, GMCLA presents its own award, and a LIVE presentation of Hairspray-creator Marc Shaiman's internet sensation "Prop 8 the Musical."

WHEN: Saturday, March 28th, 2008 at 3:00pm and 8:00pm
Sunday, March 29th at 3:00pm

EDITORS: For thirty years the men of GMCLA have been telling their compelling stories: tales of unique childhoods, coming out, facing scorn and discrimination, making love, finding their place in the world and singing out for equality for everyone.

For over 30 years, the Chorus has built an international reputation for musical excellence while remaining deeply rooted in service to the Los Angeles community. Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as "one of the last important links to a glorious tradition in music," GMCLA has more than doubled in size to 226 singers, added professional and artistic staff, toured nationally and internationally, released thirteen compact discs, commissioned more than 300 new works and arrangements and appeared frequently on national television. The Chorus membership donates over 60,000 volunteer hours annually to make GMCLA's mission of musical excellence and community partnership a reality.
