Valerie Perri will join the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra for LEGENDS OF AMERICAN FILM MUSIC on May 16. The LBSO will be under the baton of noted film and stage musical director, Larry Blank.

A film without great music is like a gourmet meal without a stellar entrée. After you've enjoyed your picnic, LBSO will serve up a multi-course musical feast. Legendary films like ET, The Sound of Music, Citizen Kane and Laura touch us powerfully and indelibly thanks in no small part to their brilliant scores. Noted film arranger Larry Blank will lead LBSO on this theatrical journey. He and orchestra members will be joined on the Arena Stage by gifted vocalist and Broadway luminary Valerie Perri.

The concert will be held in the Long Beach Arena, Long Beach Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 6:30pm for picnicking, and the concert will begin at 8pm.

More information can be found at www.lbso.org. Tickets are $15-$109 and can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com

Established in 1935, the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra (LBSO) each year draws loyal audiences from the greater metro area to its six Classics in the Terrace Theater, four Symphony POPS! events in the Long Beach Arena and two Holiday POPS! Celebration concerts in the Terrace.

Through its comprehensive music-education programs-including Elementary and Middle School Ensembles and widely acclaimed Boeing Concerts for Young People-LBSO reaches more than 50,000 students every year. The orchestra works with the Long Beach Unified School District to provide sequential, curriculum based music education opportunities throughout the year for every pupil in grade 2 through 8.

Music Director Enrique Arturo Diemecke conducts all six Classics concerts and the six Boeing Concerts for Young People in the Terrace Theater. Aptly characterizing Maestro Diemecke, the Long Beach Press-Telegram noted that "literally leaping onto the podium [he is] filled with a boundless enthusiasm for the music he plays."

LBSO often features its own musicians as soloists in the Classics Series. During our "Legendary" 2008-2009 season, they are: cellist Cécilia Tsan, violinist Roger Wilkie, pianist Gloria Cheng and trombonist Alex Iles.
