The Pasadena Playhouse's (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Stephen Eich, Executive Director) FUNHOUSE at The Playhouse, a new Outreach and Education program, launches with its first event set for today at 4:00 p.m. performance of South Street - A New Musical Comedy at The Pasadena Playhouse (39 S. El Molino).
FUNHOUSE at The Playhouse was created and developed as an outlet for parents and guardians who enjoy live theatre, but are challenged financially or logistically with planning such an outing. This new program allows parents and guardians to attend a Saturday matinee performance while their accompanying children (ages 5 - 12) participate in relevant and thematically similar educational, fun, and artistic programming that is varied by show but includes exposure to fine art, edible art, and interactive performance art. When the adults and children reunite following the performance and FUNHOUSE events they will have the opportunity and ability to further their experience by discussing what they each participated in, learned that day, and have it be connected and relevant to the whole family. FUNHOUSE at The Playhouse, one of several Pasadena Playhouse Outreach and Education programs in development, is made possible in part through the support of the Wells Fargo Theatrical Diversity Project.
"The Pasadena Playhouse is rooted in community outreach and education," stated Outreach and Education Coordinator Courtney Harper. "As we approach our coming season we look forward to seeing our current programs grow and expand as new programs and events emerge. FUNHOUSE at The Playhouse is one of those new programs that allows for families to participate regularly in the theater-going experience and build on our mission at The Pasadena Playhouse of bringing theatre to families. I am personally thrilled to have this program at The Playhouse, my home theatre here in California. As a young child, I relished the opportunity to participate in the arts and join my parents, grandparents, even aunts, uncles, and good family friends at the theatre. FUNHOUSE at The Playhouse provides an avenue to reach out to a new generation of families to experience the arts together, learn together, and grow together at The Pasadena Playhouse."
