As of March 2nd, the production of the new musical Pope Joan at the Stella Adler Theatre will be closed.

Christopher Moore (Book, Lyrics, and Music) is a playwright under contract to Michael Butler Productions. He is the recipient of the Joseph Jefferson Award for Production, Direction and New Work, and has directed his own work as the inaugural offering of The Mercury Theater in Chicago.

Pope Joan is described in press notes as "during a time marked by social chaos and political turmoil an unexpected pundit ascends the hierarchy of the most powerful regime in the world. This innovative and dramatic musical account of the historic and ecclesiastical circumstances, which may have given a young girl access to the papacy, brings century old scandals to life once more. This world premiere musical is being launched in Los Angeles and is bound to be one of the most talked about productions of the year".

Pope Joan is closing its run early and now plays through Sunday, March 2, 2009 at the Stella Adler Theatre located at 6773 Hollywood Blvd., LA, CA 90028. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 and Sundays at 2pm. Validated parking at the KODAK Center. Tickets are $34.99 and may be purchased by calling (323) 960-4412 or at www.popejoantix.com.
