The Pacific Standard Time Festival: Live Art LA/LA is a celebration of art and performance presented as part of the Getty-led initiative Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA. Organized by REDCAT, CalArts' Downtown Center for Contemporary Arts, in collaboration with partner organizations throughout greater Los Angeles, the 11-day festival will feature more than 75 works by Latin American and Latino artists, performed at more than 25 indoor and outdoor spaces. Highlights include:
· Sylvia Palacios Whitman's first West Coast performance of works first staged in the 1970s (January 11 and 13 at REDCAT gallery).
· Mexican performance collective Teatro Línea de Sombra's transformation of Lower Grand Avenue for an installation/performance using construction vehicles, tons of soil and giant projections for Durango 66, which draws connections between the student protest movements of the 1960s and present-day actions of resistance (January 16-18).
· Raul Baltazar's public intervention with a ritual procession, picnic, music and more at Ascot Hills Park to honor Angelenos' struggles of the past, present and future (January 14 & 21).
· LA-Based performers Rubén Martinez and Raquel Gutierrez's interdisciplinary performance, featuring music, spoken word, and comedy, loosely based on the Mexican vaudeville shows of early 20th century Los Angeles, with contributions from LA's vibrant performance art scene presented at the Mayan Theater (January 18).
Many of the performances are free. For a complete festival schedule and ticketing information, please visit pacificstandardtime.org or redcat.org/festival.
