THE BOOMERANG EFFECT is essentially an  academic term for describing cause-and-effect, and playwright Matthew Leavitt, who was a semifinalist in Stephen Sondheim’s Young Playwrights Festival National Playwriting Competition, was inspired by how various fields of study and professions adopt it in very different ways.  The concept of one single principle being utilized so differently by so many different fields was the inspiration for this play about five couples, and the universal complications in their sexual relationships despite the differences in scenario and detail.

The show has an all-star cast and crew. Director Damaso Rodriguez is a recipient of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, the Backstage Garland Award, the NAACP Award and the Pasadena Arts Council’s Gold Crown Award. Furious Theatre Company, where Rodriguez is a resident director and co-founder, was named to LA Weekly's list of "Best Theater of the Decade."

The ensemble includes Joel Bryant, who is appearing on Broadway next season in Neil LaBute’s FAT PIG at the Belasco Theatre, Luke McClure who originated the role of Dayne Westmoreland in Del Shores’ award-winning play, YELLOW, Charles Howerton who appears frequently on LA stages and was voted one of 10 best actors in LA theatre by reviewplays.com.

The play aslo stars Liza de Weerd, who just played Barbara Walters in the World Premiere of HUNGER: IN BED WITH ROY COHN at Odyssey, Katherine Bailess, who appeared Off Broadway in JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, and Jonathan Slavin who was seen at Lincoln Center and then On Broadway in Wendy Wasserstein's play THE SISTERS ROSENSWEIG.

The show, produced by Del Shores, Linda Toliver and Gary Guidinger, runs until April 29. Performances are Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The Odyssey Theatre is located at 2055 S. Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025. Tickets are $20-$30 and can be purchased online at http://www.odysseytheatre.com/box.htm or by calling (310) 477-2055.
