The Orange County Playwrights Alliance concludes its 2017 season of new theatre with staged readings of four new one-act plays from dramatists who have been produced locally and across the U.S., featuring skilled actors from across the Southland. Women figure prominently in all four plays.

The Edge of Wilderness by Andrea Sloan Pink - In a forlorn hotel bar in Costa Rica, a comparative lit professor who lives a comfortable life meets an Italian filmmaker who looks at life from a certain lens: "If it's not adventure, it's false." After encounters with him and a local transgendered man, she looks at art and life anew. Directed by Angela Cruz.

The Countess Tolstoy by Arthur Kraft - In 1891, Leo Tolstoy's wife Sonya persuades the Tsar of Russia to allow Tolstoy's latest story to be widely published, even though it has upset officials of both church and state. Returning home victorious, she is stunned by Tolstoy's condemnation of her efforts - and of her. Directed by Philip Brickey.

Goodbye, Mother by John Franceschini - A wealthy, narcissistic matriarch asks the son and daughter whose lives she has wrecked to come home again ... with an unsettling pact in mind. Directed by EB Bohks.

Written in the Stars by Lynn Wells Nelson - Derek and Kristin are spying on their 14-year-old daughter with binoculars, fearing she is being corrupted by their neighbor who holds pole dancing classes in her garage. Their espionage ends up bringing their family together. Directed by Candice Clasby.
