The Orange County Playwrights Alliance kicks off the 2014 edition of its Discoveries new play series with staged readings of four new one-acts from playwrights with Orange County in common and a sense of adventure in mind. All four plays deal with perception versus reality. The March 29 listing features works from dramatists produced across the West and America.

The Rules by Lynn Wells Nelson - Dreams that drive our lives can cause wrong turns. Mike is so obsessed about writing a book on "rules" that he is letting his family life slip away. A drama directed by Wade Williamson (STAGEStheatre).

Obituary by John Lane - A young reporter for a small-town newspaper visits a bereaved family to get obituary information. He gets more than he expected. A drama directed by Geoffrey Gread (New Voices Playwrights Theatre). Featuring Brandon Kasper, Mason Meskell & Leslie Williams.

Here We Are, Again or This Is Why It's Hard by Jeffrey Lo - He is a man. She is a woman. He was in love once and She was once too. Love didn't work out too well for She, and He didn't fare any better. Now, He and She see each other and they can't deny - there might be something special there. But with their wounds so fresh in their hearts, how will He and She overcome their own emotions and allow their hearts to feel once again? A drama directed by Peter J. Kuo (Artists at Play).

Christmas Parole by John Franceschini - An African-American high school dropout has to overcome his biases and prejudices in order to accept a second chance for an education offered to him by a white man. A drama directed by John Franceschini (New Voices Playwrights Theatre). Featuring Philip Bushell, Rick Kopps & Pauline Merry.
