Modern Romance, by new playwright, Meghan Magner, is a one-act romantic comedy centering on topics of; love, technology, trans rights, crushing on your best friend, and swiping right. It debuts in the Hollywood Fringe Festival; opening June 10th at 6PM at the Broadwater Black Box Theatre. (6322 Santa Monica Blvd. 90038)
Throughout the hour of comedy, the show touches on hot topics of toxic masculinity, sexual pressure, gender identity, and finding real love in this world of technology and plan B's. "Through comedy we are able to address some of the more serious issues our generation is facing," explains playwright, director and first time Fringer, Meghan Magner, "it makes the whole mess a lot more palatable."
The ensemble cast navigates their way around the cafe, meeting dates, telling lies, swiping right. The tone between soberingly somber and painfully laugh out loud ironic is justified within the theme of Millenial Love.
