A writer suffering from writer's block presents us with a series of witty tales of human eccentricity and frailty. From an overzealous dentist to the sneezing fit of a government clerk, and from an entrepreneurial tramp to a mother cheating her governess' pay, the writer speaks to the audience and shares his stories with them throughout the course of a day. The audience is taken through a number of scenes: his childhood, others with friends and family, and still others from his own adult life experiences.
A mix of Little Fish Theatre regulars and new faces make up the ensemble of the eleven pieces presented. Company Members include Amanda Karr* (StageScene LA Award for Best Actress, LFT's Present Laughter) and Dan Adams (LFT's Old Love and Escanaba in Da Moonlight). Maire-Rose Pike* (LFT's Table Manners) and Sam Gasch (Surf City Theatre Company's Laughter on the 23rd Floor) play multiple roles as well, with Daniel Gallai (multiple Cannes Film Festival producing and directing documentary credits) anchoring the troupe as "the Writer."
"This is a fast and furious production, with the actors performing no less than four roles each," states director James Rice. "The twists and turns in the stories will keep the audience on its toes and energized throughout the evening." Rice has directed numerous plays at Little Fish over the years, the most recent of which was The Clean House. He was also seen on stage in LFT's 2016 world premiere holiday short play festival A Very Special Holiday Special.
The Good Doctor will run June 16 through July 15 on Fridays and Saturdays, with one Sunday matinee on June 25 which features a special Talkback session where the creative team will be available for 10 to 15 minutes for a post-show discussion with the audience.
Founded in 2002 as an artists' ensemble, Little Fish Theatre presents classic and contemporary plays in an intimate setting on Centre Street in downtown San Pedro.
