The Neighborhood Playhouse Artistic Director Brady Schwind announced the first two selections of Theatre Company's premiere season of plays and musicals.  Main stage performances are held at the historic Neighborhood Church: 415 Paseo Del Mar, Palos Verdes Estates, CA 90274

Amadeus
By Peter Shaffer
Directed by Brady Schwind
Opens April 25
Closes May 4
Friday – Sunday evenings at 8PM
Tickets: $18-20

One of the most acclaimed productions of the 20th Century, Amadeus has been honored with 5 Tony Awards, 8 Oscars, and extended London and Broadway runs.  The Neighborhood Playhouse is thrilled to open the 2008 Season with a rare Los Angeles production of this modern masterpiece, in a version rewritten since its original Broadway and film successes.

"What happens when mediocrity recognizes itself in the face of genius?  Especially when genius comes in the form of a vulgar child prodigy?  This is the challenge posed as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, perhaps the greatest composer of all time, unknowingly becomes the battleground of envious court composer Antonio Salieri's strife with God," explain press notes, "From Peter Shaffer, the master storyteller behind Equus and Black Comedy, Amadeus combines intrigue, suspense, comedy, and passion with exquisite costumes and some of the most stirring music ever written."

Parade
Book by Alfred Uhry; Music and Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown
Directed by Brady Schwind
Choreographed by Brady Schwind and Imara Quinonez
Opens July 11
Closes July 27
Friday-Saturday at 8PM
Sunday at 2PM & 7:30PM
Tickets: $18-20

"Based on the true story of Leo Frank, wrongly convicted of the murder of thirteen year old Mary Phagan in Atlanta, Georgia in 1913, Parade recounts the press frenzy and public hatred surrounding the trial, and his wife's crusade for justice. In a time of religious intolerance, political injustice and racial tension, this stirring musical explores the endurance of love and hope against all the odds," explain press notes.

Parade received its world première at the Lincoln Center in 1998 under the directorship of Harold Prince. It received 9 Tony Award nominations, and won the Awards for both Book and Score, as well as the Drama Desk and New York Critics' Circle Awards for Best New Musical.

Tickets to all Main Stage shows are reserved seating. Seating at Skunk Hollow and the Fall 2008 Play Reading Festival are open seating. Tickets will be available to purchase on the Neighborhood Playhouse Website: www.neighborhoodplayhouse.net All plays, schedules and prices are subject to change.
