NBC4, ABC7 Rake in 2013 Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards

The 65th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, were held last night, August 3rd, 2013, at the Academy's Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre.

NBC4 topped the list with eight honors, for Sports Series - News for "The London Olympics: Socal Shines at Summer Games"; Investigative Reporting - News for "Illegal Animal Traffickers"; News Special for "LA Riots: 20 Years Later"; Outstanding Writer - News to Daisy Lin; Serious News Story - Single Report to "Frankie's Fight for Freedom"; Outstanding Director - News to Gayle Galvez; Outstanding Hard News Reporting to reporter Ana Garcia and producer Robbi Peele; and Regularly Scheduled Daily Daytime Newscast: 11:00AM - 7:00PM to NBC4 at 6PM.

ABC7 came in just behind NBC4 with seven awards, including Outstanding Editor - Programming to Jeff MacIntyre; Outstanding Writer - Programming to David Ono; Outstanding Videographer, Single Cameria - Programming to Jeff MacIntyre; Children/Youth Programming to "Imagine"; Outstanding News Feature Reporting to David Ono; Entertainment Programming for "Eye on L.A. Presents: The Legends of Laurel Canyon"; and Outstanding Hard News Reporting to David Ono.

Other shows recognized included coverage of the Shuttle Endeavour on KTTV-TV, live coverage of the Newtown Connecticut shooting on KTLA5, CBS2's March Madness sports special, "Concussions: The Invisible Injury" for Medical News Story on KTLA5, and more. Read the full list here.

This year, the Los Angeles Area Governors Award was presented to Univision Los Angeles' "Educate, es el Momento".
