Musical Theatre Guild, the winner of the Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in the theatre, concludes the 2016-2017 season by taking family audiences to the fair! STATE FAIR, Rodgers & Hammerstein's musical celebration of family, love and Americana, takes place for one night only, Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 7:00 PM, at Glendale's historic Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Blvd, Glendale, CA 91203.

The creative team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II changed the course of musical theatre with their many Broadway hits. Now, their one and only musical written directly for the movie screen, STATE FAIR comes to life at the Alex Theatre stage. Originally based on Phil Stong's novel of the same name, STATE FAIR was filmed not once, but twice: once in 1945, starring Jeanne Crain and Dana Andrews, and again in 1962, starring Pat Boone and Ann-Margret. In 1996, the musical was adapted for the Broadway stage, with a new book by Tom Briggs and Louis Mattioli, and starred John Davidson, Andrea McArdle, and Donna McKechnie. The Broadway production was nominated for two Tony Awards, including one for Rodgers & Hammerstein, though both had been gone for many years!

STATE FAIR follows the Frake family's journey from their farm to the three-day 1946 Iowa State Fair, where lessons are learned and love and heartbreak are found on the midway. It features an Academy Award-winning score, including the hit songs 'It Might As Well Be Spring' and 'It's A Grand Night For Singing.' The new stage version incorporates additional songs from the Rodgers and Hammerstein songbook, turning STATE FAIR into a uniquely theatrical experience.

Musical Theatre Guild presents rarely staged or forgotten musicals in a semi-staged, script-in-hand format, utilizing professional union actors and a live orchestra. Musical Theatre Guild's roster of talent is a "who's who" of musical theatre performers, and the cast of STATE FAIR is no exception. MTG's production will star company members James Gleason and Carol Kline as Abel and Mellissa Frake, Kelley Dorney and Will Collyer as their children Margy and Wayne and Katie DeShan as Emily Arden. Other featured MTG company members include Chuck Bergman, Zachary Ford, and Tonilyn Hornung with guest artists Lacey Beegun, Mathew Patrick Davis, Carlin Castellano, Cedric Dodd, Gabriel Kalomas, Nancy Lam, Steve Limones and Nicholas Tubbs. The production will be directed and choreographed by Daniel Smith with musical direction by Corey Hirsch and is under the production supervision of Barbara Carlton Heart.

As part of Musical Theatre Guild's commitment to engage younger generations in the arts, a portion of the tickets for STATE FAIR will be allocated to students from underserved schools.

Appropriate for all ages, Rodgers & Hammerstein's STATE FAIR is a must-see musical for all theatre fans, and, with discounted prices for children, it's the perfect family-friendly entertainment for the young and the "young-at-heart."
