Multi-Award Winning Actor A. Russell Andrews to Star in Dark Comedy BECOMING HUMAN at McCadden Place Theatre

A. Russell Andrews will star in BECOMING HUMAN, a new dark comedy written by Dr. Nicki Joy Monti and directed by Diana Wyenn.

After decades of mama drama, an up-and-coming therapist in California finds herself back on the couch begging for shortcuts to closure with the powerful, intelligent, funny, alcoholic, narcissist who birthed her. BECOMING HUMAN pulls from the celebrity therapist's own gut-wrenching past to reveal the potent, illuminating and unexpected healing that can come from a harrowing 50-year mother-daughter journey. BECOMING HUMAN is an inspired true tale of family drama, sexual exploits, fury, heartbreak, and glory-where none of the names have been changed to protect the guilty.

The cast includes Lauren Campadelli, Michael Matthys, Nicki J. Monti, John Moskal, Wasim No'Mani, Leticia Petersen and Kat Rodriguez, along with the creative team in Joey Guthman (set and lighting design), Cricket S. Myers (sound design) and Mylette Nora (costume design).

BECOMING HUMAN will begin performances on Saturday, July 15, 2017, and run through Sunday, July 30, 2017, with a preview performance on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. Performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $30 ($15 for the preview performance). Andrews recently appeared on Lifetime's Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland directed by Academy Award-Nominated filmmaker Dianne Houston, CBS' NCIS: New Orleans and AMC's Better Call Saul. Andrews, who received a 2016 Emmy consideration for his role in TV One's Runaway Island, can be seen later this summer in Season 2 of HBO's Insecure. He was also in the film Manic, directed by Kate Marks, which was an official selection of the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival and is currently streaming on HBO. With a career that spans nearly 25 years, Andrews is also the founding member and producing artistic director of the multi-award winning Los Angeles-based stage company, StageWalkers. The company has received over 30 LA Theatre award nominations and wins which include two NAACP Theatre Awards and two LA Stage Alliance Ovation Awards for his work with Pulitzer Prize winning author August Wilson's Piano Lesson, Jitney, and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom in which Andrews received an NAACP Theatre Award for Best Actor. As 'Youngblood' in Jitney, Andrews, along with Wilson and the stellar cast that starred Roger Robinson, Keith Randolph Smith and multiple Tony Nominee, Dr. Stephen Mckinley Henderson, received the 2002 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play performed at The Royal National Theatre in London, directed by award-winning director Marion McClinton.
