The curtain closed on the original production of The Magic Bullet Theory on April 22, 2012; now, barely just over six months later, the show will rise again in a remount at the Matrix Theatre. The play will run Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 7pm from tonight, November 8 through December 15, announced co-writer/producer Alex Zola, who wrote the play with Terry Tocantins.

The Magic Bullet Theory script weaves historical facts and wild speculation seamlessly into a laugh-out-loud spectacle with dialogue lifted from transcripts, slow motion reenactments, a surreal dream ballet, a musical number, tons of literary license, and yes, the Warren Commission Report. The Magic Bullet Theory is directed by JJ Mayes, produced by Annette Fasone, Mike Schneider, Mandi Moss and Zola with choreography by Natasha Norman.

The crux of the theory proposed by the play is that the assassination was an accident. It was meant to be an assassination attempt - a near miss. In an effort by the various parties involved to yank the president’s chain, the shooter was supposed to miss the president. Something went horribly wrong. Tocantins and Zola’s script examines the event and how it affected those involved and the public on a surprisingly human level, albeit with the irreverent eye of a post-baby boomer, sans Camelot’s haze and after the assassinations of MM, MLK and RFK, the Vietnam War, Richard Nixon and 9/11.

The Magic Bullet Theory’s journey to the Matrix Theatre has as many stops, twists, drops and turns as the infamous magic bullet that allegedly hit JFK and Governor John Connally. It started as a planned novella, to blog postings, to two short episodic plays as part of The Sacred Fools Theatre’s irreverent late night series Serial Killers, to a full-length play at Sacred Fools Theatre and now surfaces, yet again, in the remount at the Matrix Theatre.

Tocantins and Zola will take the play to Washington D.C. and New York in 2013 and are developing a feature script with the goal to have The Magic Bullet Theory, the film, out by November 2013, the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination and the birth of countless conspiracy theories.
