"Why Dream in Inglewood?" presents the entire six-hours of playwright Henry Ong's stage adaptation of "Dream of the Red Chamber," based on the epic Chinese classic by Ts'ao Hsueh-Ch'in Saturday, May 27 at various locations in the Edward Vincent Jr Park in Inglewood
"Dream of the Red Chamber," a sprawling narrative that interweaves realism and surrealism, explores the decline of the fortunes of the noble Chia clan during the early Ching dynasty through a tale of two cousins.
Brought to life by a diverse cast under the direction of Kila Kitu and Ong, the complete play-in four acts, each approximately 90 minutes-will be presented with three intermissions Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 27th from 10:30 am.
The schedule for the day is as follows: Act I , 10:30 am - 12:00 pm intermission Act II, 12:30 pm -2:00 pm, intermission Act III 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm intermission Act IV 4:30 -6:00 pm
The events is free and open to the public. Comfortable shoes and shoes, a towel and brown bag are recommended. In the event of inclement weather, performances will take place indoors at the Agee Playhouse, also in Vincent Park.
The play is offered through "Why Dream in Inglewood?", a City of Inglewood Growing Artists Performed Projects (IGAPP) Initiative, awarded to Playwright Ong. This initiative exposes Inglewood audiences to the practices of contemporary artists and supports the work and growth of artists.
