The Hayworth Theatre will present Lou Diamond Phillips' original play Burning Desire on June 18 launching the new Bruno Kirby Reading Series. Burning Desire will be directed by Wendie Malick featuring Michael Urie, Amy Smart and Lauria.
"
Burning Desire, is a romantic comedy in two acts told through the puppeteering antics of "Lucifer," played by Phillips. Two people who encounter what seems to be the love of their lives, are taken on a roller coaster ride of romance masterfully manipulated by the mystical matchmaker," state press notes.
Phillips, who first became popular in the 1987 film "La Bamba," is no stranger to the stage, having performed in
The King and I on Broadway, and is currently set to star in the national tour of
Camelot beginning with the Los Angeles engagement.
Best known for her starring role in the long-running series "Just Shoot Me,"
Wendie Malick has appeared in numerous television series including "Frasier," "CSI" and "Law and Order," to name a few.
Michael Urie currently stars in the ABC-TV hit series "Ugly Betty" as "Marc," the conniving assistant to the cunning editor "Wilhelmina," portrayed by
Vanessa Williams.
Amy Smart most recently was seen starring in the series "Smith" with
Ray Liotta.
Dan Lauria is best known for his role as Fred Savage's dad in the hit series, "The Wonder Years."
This new Reading Series honors the beloved
Bruno Kirby by showcasing celebrities who are dedicated to theatre. Kirby was well known for his performances in the films, "This is Spinal Tap," "Good Morning, Vietnam," "When Harry Met Sally," and
Neil Simon's Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning play
Lost in Yonkers.
