MUSE/IQUE Announces 2018 Summer Series And New Partnership With The Huntington Image

MUSE/IQUE, Pasadena's pioneering live music organization and counter-conventional orchestra, is proud to announce that its summer music series will continue under a new collaboration with The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens on June 30, July 28 and August 25, 2018. Performances will take place at the Brown Garden Lawn, adjacent to the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art. Past performances took place at Caltech's Beckman Mall Lawn.

"This is an exhilarating new chapter for MUSE/IQUE! We are honored that the Huntington has opened its doors to our audiences and our performers. By doing so, they offer us an infinite curatorial palate and enable us to reach new artistic heights and new audiences," says Rachael Worby, Founder and Artistic Director of MUSE/IQUE. "We are grateful to Caltech for offering their campus as our summer home for the past six years, and for our fruitful partnership which fostered our dramatic growth."

"We are proud to welcome MUSE/IQUE to the Huntington," says Randy Shulman, Vice President for Advancement of the Huntington. "Their thrilling music performances will provide a new way for people to experience the grounds on perfect summer evenings. We couldn't be happier to add this wonderful new music amenity to our calendar of events."

To support this program and other initiatives, in its largest fundraising effort to date, MUSE/IQUE has major new commitments to support its new strategic plan, which was created after a successful fifth anniversary year (2016) to realize the next stages for MUSE/IQUE. Goals of the strategic plan include a bolstered fundraising infrastructure, enhanced community engagement programs, and more artistic planning resources. This investment initiates the enrichment of the summer series and coincides with its move to The Huntington. The amount raised includes $400,000 from the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, $200,000 from East West Bank, and $600,000 from an anonymous donor.

Dominic Ng, Chairman and CEO of East West Bank says, "Rachael Worby and MUSE/IQUE give our community a special energy and sense of fellowship. MUSE/IQUE does great work bringing people together - and they do it in a unique way. The programs are always innovative, surprising, fun and deeply educational. Through our partnership with MUSE/IQUE, we want to help sustain their work for the benefit of new, diverse audiences over the next several years."

Driven by Artistic Director Rachael Worby's passionate belief in the communal, transformative power of music, MUSE/IQUE forgoes the traditional concert hall format, and presents artistic experiences in notable community locales that connect and inspire audiences through multidisciplinary programs.

"This incredible invitation from the Huntington is part of the broader emergence of MUSE/IQUE. After an astonishing first six years, our year-round musical adventure has become a vital component of the cultural scene of our community," says LeeAnn Havner, Board Chair of MUSE/IQUE.

Aptly titled STATES/UNITED: Mapping Musical America, the three-part series of live events at the Huntington will celebrate and explore our unique American sound. Each program will showcase the mysterious and powerful interplay between the forces of time, place and music. Audiences will be treated to the ultimate musical road trip, which will feature the streetwise sound of Harlem jazz, Leonard Bernstein, coast to coast rock and soul, cherished songs inspired the American Midwest, the glittering magic of Las Vegas, the transformative hits of Route 66, the uniquely inclusive sound of Los Angeles, and much more.

Continuing MUSE/IQUE's tradition of creating collaborative experiences that connect the venue environment to the performance, STATES/UNITED will draw inspiration from The Huntington's vast collections of treasures in American art and history in order to create a new kind of map of America - one fashioned from thrilling live music performances.

Joining Rachael Worby and the MUSE/IQUE Orchestra are remarkable featured guests, including pianist Lara Downes, violinist Charles Yang, The L.A. Choral Lab, American Ballet Theatre, Ballet Hispánico, and dancers performing choreography by Kitty McNamee.

Tickets will be available for purchase at prices ranging from $30-$130, beginning Monday, April 9, 2018. All MUSE/IQUE Members receive early access to ticket sales in March as well as a 25% discount on single tickets. For more information about ticket sales, including group sales, please visit http://muse-ique.com/ and click on events, or call Audience Services at 626-539-7085.

STATES/UNITED is made possible in part by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.
