New Theatre Ensemble on the LA Scene. The Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble is a company of seasoned professionals who work in the TV and film industry, as well as on stage. The founding company members Gregg T. Daniel, Jason Delane, Yvonne Huff, and Veralyn Jones came together several years ago to explore the idea of founding their own company, a theater home that supports family, career and craft. Their common belief was that ‘theatre mattered' - - that what inspired and challenged each of them was the need to take part in the process of creating plays. Ultimately, their deep belief in the indelible power of theater moved them to found the Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble.
The Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble's inaugural season opens with the U.S. Premiere of THREE SISTERS AFTER CHEKHOV, Mustapha Matura's penetrating adaptation of Anton Chekhov's classic play set in 1941 Colonial era Trinidad. The play involves three sisters who live privileged lives in Port of Spain with their unworldly brother and his domineering wife. They dream of returning home to their adopted country, England, where they spent their cosmopolitan youth. But these ambitions of emigrating soon collapse as WW II escalates and the Trinidadian army is called to serve King, Country and Empire. This play captures the complexities of family life, challenges community consciousness, and celebrates the collective human experience.Videos
