The Long Beach Playhouse is pleased to present the Agatha Christie classic, A Murder is Announced in its Mainstage Theatre. In Christie style, the play takes place in a house with several occupants. It begins when the local paper states the date and time a murder will take place in Miss Blacklock's Victorian home. What follows is a classic puzzle of murder, mixed motives, concealed identities, a diligent inspector ably following the twists and turns, and of course, Miss Marple on hand to provide the solution just before the final curtain.

Bringing the story to life are 11 talented actors including: Rachel Thomas-Chappell, Linda Sutera, Caitlin Barry and Kawika Aguilar, BriAna Miller, Desi Molinari, Kathleen Fabry, Sarah Green, Lee Samuel Tanng, Rick Reischman, and Zach Sanchez.

"Our director for this show is Greg Cohen. This is his 26th show at The Playhouse," said Madison Mooney, Playhouse Executive Director. "Greg wears many hats around here. In November, he was an actor in Don't Dress for Dinner. This time he's on the other side of the stage, working with the actors to draw out all the wit and humor that's tucked into Agatha Christie's dialog."

Cohen grew up watching the old movies on television with his mother; he was amused by the slightly overacted performances that felt so quaint at the time. For this show, Cohen's goal was to recreate the magical blend of theatricality and mystery that he and his mother found so captivating in the old movies.

"Greg always surprises audiences. Last year he directed on of our most popular shows, Around the World in 80 Days," said Mooney. "He brings the same creative sensibility to this show. I know the audience will be glad they came to see it."

A Murder is Announced opens on January 14 and runs through February 11, 2017.
