Due to capacity crowds, the final show of Long Beach Playhouse Mainstage season, Jesus Christ Superstar, will extend one additional weekend and will close on Saturday night, August 22. Tickets can be purchased online at lbplayhouse.org or by calling the box office at 562-494-1014 X 1.
"We're thrilled when we have to add an extra weekend," said Andrew Vonderschmitt, the Playhouse's Executive and Producing Artistic Director. "It means a lot to us that the community comes out to support us."
The play tells the story of the final three days of Christ's life. In this interpretation Rice and Webber have taken Jesus off the stained glass window and thrust him into the street with the rest of us. These are not good or bad people, they are just people caught up in incredible circumstances, trying to do what they believe is right. It's a story about people, love, forgiveness and acceptance.
This play is the first to be done with the Playhouse's new sound system. The voices of the singers and the music provided by the incredibly talented four-piece ensemble are crystal clear and can be heard equally well throughout the intimate theatre space.
"You'll never feel closer to the action than you do at the Playhouse." said Vonderschmitt.
