After a successful weekend of previews, Loft Ensemble is excited to open our newest world premiere this Saturday. The Aeroplane is a world premiere drama written and directed by Mitch Rosander that deals head on with the issues of addiction, recovery, and self-identity. The show will open on January 30th and run until March 6th with performances on Saturdays at 8PM and Sundays at 7PM. Tickets are $20 and available at www.loftensemble.org. The full press release follows below.
In addition to this show, Loft has scheduled the next two shows in their season. Following The Aeroplane, they will present a world premiere musical, Wanting Miss Julie; a loose, contemporary adaptation of Strindberg's famous Miss Julie. The book is written by
John Sparks, lyrics are by Patricia Zehentmayr, and music is composed by Jake Anthony. Loft Ensemble's Managing Director, Kevin Meoak, will be helming the show as director with choreography by April Sheets.
Coming in May, the company is excited to announce a production of
William Shakespeare's King Lear, starring veteran stage and Emmy Award nominated actor
Leon Russom. The show will be directed by
Bree Pavey and feature fight direction by Mike Mahaffey (2015 Ovation Award for Fight Direction).
Upon learning of his grandfather's death, Vince must return home for the funeral. When he boards a plane headed for home, Vince meets an unlikely companion and embarks on an incredible journey that spans space, time, imagination and reality, exploring his own self-worth, isolation and fear. An ensemble based world premiere play that includes elements of movement, dance, and music, The Aeroplane is an honest examination of addiction and recovery, and the moment when the human spirit can overcome.
