The Latino Theater Company has received a $500,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support capacity building activities. The grant provides $425,000 in spendable funds for use over three years to support the expansion of administrative staff and $75,000 in matching funds to support a revolving board-designated cash reserve.
Jose Luis Valenzuela, artistic director and president of the board of the Latino Theater Company, responded to the news.
"We are excited to receive this generous and significant grant award from the Mellon Foundation," he said. "The grant award is recognition of our impact on the City of Los Angeles, and the funds will allow us to expand and professionalize our staff. This grant will give us the capacity to survive long term in an increasingly competitive arts entertainment environment."
The mission of the Latino Theater Company at the Los Angeles Theatre Center is to provide a world-class arts center for those pursuing artistic excellence; a laboratory where both tradition and innovation are honored and honed; and a place where the convergence of people, cultures and ideas contribute to the future. The Latino Theater Company operates the Los Angeles Theatre Center, owned by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs, and is celebrating its 30th birthday and ten years at the LATC.
