La Jolla Playhouse is offering Pay What You Can rates for three performances of the currently running comedy, The Third Story. Patrons may purchase tickets for any amount they can afford, starting at a minimum of one dollar for the matinees on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19 and for the evening of Sunday, October 19.
Christopher Ashley,
La Jolla Playhouse Artistic Director, explains, “The last two weeks have been an incredibly stressful and uncertain time for all Americans - emotionally, psychically, and financially.
La Jolla Playhouse would like to make a small gesture towards providing at least some relief through creating some very accessibly priced performances. We are offering three of our final weekend performances of The Third Story, as Pay What You Can performances. Hopefully, some of you will choose to be quite generous! But mostly, we want you to take a night off, come out to
La Jolla Playhouse, and enjoy the show."
The Third Story is an imaginative comic drama that is composed of three interconnected stories: a realistic tale of a mother and son screenwriting team in the 1940's, a B-movie about the uneasy alliance between a mob queen and a frosty lady scientist and a Russian fairy tale in which a painfully shy Princess makes a dark pact with a mercurial old witch. Written by
Charles Busch and directed by
Carl Andress. Several cast members (including
Charles Busch) will perform more than one role, highlighting the play’s central theme of dual identity. The play is commissioned by
La Jolla Playhouse and is inspired by Busch's life-long interest in film history.
Pay What You Can is part of
La Jolla Playhouse’s continuing effort to make live theatre as accessible as possible to all in our community.
Pay What You Can tickets will be available on a first come-first served basis one hour prior to each performance. Tickets must be purchased in person at the
La Jolla Playhouse box office. There is a limit of two per customer. Tickets are subject to availability. Seating is not guaranteed.
