In 1927, a young woman with a limitless imagination and a flair for electronics dreams of a medium that might break down cultural barriers and inspire world peace: namely, television. Later, when her glowing box with blurry pictures becomes a fixture in America's living rooms, her forecast of an electronically driven Utopia proves to be far from perfect. The broadcast includes two special features: a conversation with Matt Roush, Senior Critic at TV Guide, about how TV has changed the world in ways Ruby never imagined; and a look at one of TV's real-life pioneers, Philo T. Farnsworth, with historians Phil Savaneck and Karen Herman.
L.A. Theatre Works' radio theater series can also be heard on the following stations (check local listings for broadcast times): 89.7 WGBH, Boston; 91.5 WBEZ, Chicago; 94.9 KUOW, Seattle; 90.1 WABE, Atlanta; 94.1 KPFA, Berkeley; 91.1 KRCB, North Bay (San Francisco); and many other stations nationwide.

Mark Taper Foundation is a private family foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of people's lives by supporting non-profit organizations and their work in the community.
