The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Classical KUSC continue their annual radio broadcast partnership, which last year expanded to more than 160 markets nationwide, and now reaches more than 800,000 listeners. The 13 concerts, recorded during the LA Phil's 2010/11 season, feature the orchestra with an impressive roster of guest artists and conductors. The first broadcast, recorded October 14 - 17, 2010, presents Olivier Messiaen's Turangalîla-symphonie, featuring LA Phil Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Cynthia Millar playing the ondes martenot. It airs locally on KUSC-FM 91.5 Los Angeles, Sunday, April 3, 2011, at 4 p.m.
Other series highlights include performances by noted soloists: pianists Peter Serkin and Jeremy Denk; mezzo-sopranos Anne Sofie von Otter and Kelley O'Connor; bass-baritones Willard White and Bryn Terfel; violinists Leila Josefowicz and Renaud Capuçon; soprano Christine Schäfer; baritone Matthias Goerne; and cellist Gautier Capuçon. Guest conductors include: Pablo Heras-Casado, Leonard Slatkin and Thomas Adès. Guest ensembles and orchestras are: Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Glorious Percussion and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. The series also includes the West Coast premieres of Wynton Marsalis' LA Phil-commissioned Swing Symphony, Thomas Adès' Polaris, and Gerald Mackey's Beautiful Passing. LA Phil Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and LA Phil Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen are featured during the series.In total, more than 120 stations carry the broadcasts, breaking down to one commercial station, 15 NPR stations, 6 non-commercial stations and 100 repeater/translator stations. Additional local coverage areas include KDSC-FM 91.1 Thousand Oaks, KQSC-FM 88.7 Santa Barbara, KPSC-FM 88.5 Palm Springs, and KESC-FM 99.7 Morro Bay/San Luis Obispo.
