Some 39 members of Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC), one of the world's leading children's choirs, are featured in LA Opera's production of Humperdinck's enchanting Hansel and Gretel conducted by James Conlon and starring mezzo-soprano Susan Graham (The Witch), mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke (Hansel) and soprano Liv Redpath (Gretel). The production runs for six performances from November 17 to December 15, 2018, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. LACC's new Artistic Director, Fernando Malvar-Ruiz, prepared the young choristers for their roles as the gingerbread children, noted for the purity of their sound and intricate four-part harmony. A perennial favorite, Hansel and Gretel, based on the beloved Brothers Grimm tale and sung in English, features a magical score and plot and is considered to be the composer's best-known work.

The featured LACC choristers include Christer Avendano, Christof Avendano, Mimi Bernstein, Andrew Bigelow, Mary Bingham, Sydney Brakeley, Hannah Cahalan, Ella Cannon, Harvey Chang, Annabelle Cheung, Trinity Dela Cruz, Maya Day, Stephanie Endara, Naomi Engle, Leigh Epstein, Anika Erickson, Dylan Escobedo, Quinn Fagan, Tessa Henriod, Karina Ho, Megan Hoffman, Aurix Hong, David Kakuk, Lily Keating, Zora Kuzma, Jemma Ancui Lawler, Therese Magboo, Katherine Olsen, Sophie Pang, Matilda Scott, Vanessa Smith, Jasmine Sov, Madison Spitzer, Leah Taylor, Reagan Voxman and Oscar Yum.

LACC serves more than 400 children ages 6 to 18 from 50 communities across Los Angeles. In demand for its artistic excellence, LACC performs with such leading organizations as Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony and POPS, Calder Quartet and Jacaranda, as well as LA Opera. LACC, recipient of Chorus America's 2014 Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence, the nation's highest choral honor, shares its artistry around the globe, touring to North and South America, Africa, China, Cuba, Australia, Japan, Scandinavia and Europe. The chorus is also the subject of a trilogy of documentaries by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Freida Mock, has performed with John Mayer on NBC's "The Tonight Show," and was featured on PBS's "Great Performances," BBC Radio and Public Radio International as well as John Williams' latest recording, John Williams & Steven Spielberg: The Ultimate Collection, among other credits.
