Grammy Award-winning bassist MARCUS MILLER will receive the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Los Angeles Jazz Society at the 2024 Jazz Tribute Concert & Awards on Saturday, October 5th at Plaza del Sol at CSUN (Northridge, CA) - hosted by the multi-talented comedian Alonzo Bodden. This exciting 2-hour event is the annual celebration of jazz and the talented musicians who have made this extraordinary music their life's passion. Special guests include Stanley Clarke, Michael Lazaroff, John Clayton, Joe LaBarbera, and the CSUN Jazz Band plus many more.

Marcus will be recognized for a 30+ year career as recording artist/performer, composer, and producer, including collaborations with dozens of artists from Luther Vandross to David Sanborn to Wayne Shorter. In addition, he also hosts and headlines multiple sold-out Jazz Cruises each year including the Blue Note at Sea and Smooth Jazz Cruise.

LAJS will also honor Oscar and Emmy award-winning composer, pianist and documentary director KRIS BOWERS with the Jazz Composer/Arranger Award recognizing his work on film and television including Green Book, King Richard, The Color Purple, Bridgerton, Mrs. America and When they See Us, with special recognition of the recent Academy Award documentary short - The Last Repair Shop focusing on the LAUSD efforts to maintain over 80,000 instruments for their music students (a purpose close to the heart of the Society).

The brilliant jazz recording artist and songwriter Veronica Swift will receive Jazz Vocalist honors. Coming from a revered jazz family, and performing with jazz greats since age 9, she has solidified her position in modern jazz and beyond. This year's Jazz Advocacy Award will be presented to Los Angeles City Council President PAUL KREKORIAN. Three outstanding teachers and mentors CHAD BLOOM, ROBERT HACKETT AND JOHN MOSLEY are this year's Jazz Educator awardees acknowledging their many years working with the next generation of musicians at Agoura High School. Talented pianist Taylor Lee will accept the 2024 Flip and Shelly Manne New Talent Award and perform with his quartet.

The annual Tribute is the key Jazz Society fundraiser of the year which supports annual jazz education programs benefitting thousands of young people in LAUSD schools every year. Jazz in Schools provides free educational concerts in elementary schools for 25,000 students and the Bill Green Mentorship Program provides free training in advanced musical techniques from professional musicians for young aspiring jazz musicians. The Jeff Clayton Memorial New Note Award presents commissions to young jazz composers to create new works to be premiered at a jazz festival. More info available at www.lajazz.org
